Lagos City Marathon: the coastal road course and 2027 date
The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is the big city marathon of Lagos, Nigeria, usually run in February. In 2026 the 11th edition moved the marathon to a new route along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, right beside the Atlantic.
Lagos City Marathon 2027: date, venue, entry
Date: the race is usually held in February; the 2026 edition was on Saturday 14 February. The 2027 date has not yet been announced on the official website.
Venue: in 2026 the marathon started at ORCA Mall on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, and finished in Eko Atlantic City. The 2027 venue has not been confirmed.
Races on the day: a 42 km marathon and a 10 km race. Athletes registered with an athletics federation, in Nigeria or abroad, cannot enter the 10 km.
Entry fee: the official registration page lists entry as free. Foreign runners must register online at the official website; paper forms have been available at Access Bank branches and at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
Registration dates and race pack: not yet published for 2027. Registration for the 2026 race has closed.

The course
The 2026 marathon started at ORCA Mall on Victoria Island and ran east along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, turning at about halfway and coming back west on the same road. The finish was inside Eko Atlantic City, about 1.5 km south of the start.
Earlier editions used a different route, starting at the National Stadium in Surulere and crossing the Third Mainland Bridge and the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge before finishing at Eko Atlantic.

What the race is known for
The new coastal route is flat and runs beside the Atlantic for most of the way. Because it is out and back, runners see the leaders coming the other way, and the finish in Eko Atlantic City brings the race back to the edge of Victoria Island.
Running it
Plan for the conditions:
- Lagos is hot and humid, so drink at the stations from the start, not only in the second half.
- Use the halfway turnaround to check your pace: the return is on the same road, so you know what is coming.
- Get to Victoria Island early; moving around Lagos on race morning takes time.
